A properly configured laptop is needed to participate in Security 563: Mobile Device Forensics.

Laptop Requirements

  • CPU: 1.5 GHz or higher is recommended
  • DVD/CD combo drive
  • 1 Gigabyte of RAM minimum (2 or higher RAM is highly recommended)
  • USB interface for data cable connection to mobile devices
  • 60 Gigabyte hard drive minimum (HARD DRIVE SIZE IS CRITICAL)
  • 30 Gigabytes of free space on your hard drive
  • Download and install WINZIP 12 or higher on your Windows machine
  • Bring your INSTALLATION CD-ROMS or DVDs to the course

The following software will be provided on the course DVD you will receive when you arrive for class. We recommend that you install as much of this software on your laptop as feasible before coming to class to maximize your learning experience.

Although some mobile devices are provided during class, students are encouraged to bring mobile devices and SIM cards from home to experiment with using the tools and techniques in this course, but this is not required.
